An Ancient Hawaiian village is to become the cultural center at the gateway to Poipu Beach. This village dates from the mid-1400’s or earlier, and contains what may be the only intact makahiki (Hawaiian sporting arena) in the state. The area is under the stewardship of the native Hawaiian group Hui Malama O Kaneiolouma. There is a 7 year, 4 phase plan for restoration, and it will be opened to the public after phase 3 is finished.
